HARD CHROME
PLATING
For years, Okotech has been standing out or its exceptional durability and superior quality chromium metal surface finish.
As Montreal's experts in the field, we understand the importance of chrome in extending the lifespan and performance of machinery components tailored to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

Electroplating
Hard chrome plating, also known as industrial chrome, is a technique that involves coating metal surfaces with a layer of chromium. This process is not merely for decorative purposes; the chrome layer's hardness, makes it ideal for high-stress environments, significantly enhancing the functionality of metal parts.

The primary objective of chrome plating is to improve wear resistance, reduce friction, and provide a protective barrier against corrosion. In industrial applications, components such as hydraulic cylinders, pistons, and molds require such enhancements to operate smoothly and efficiently.

What sets us apart
Surface preparation
To obtain a result to Okotech's standards, we begin by a meticulous surface preparation process. Initially, the metal component undergoes thorough cleaning to remove any dirt, grease, or existing coatings. This step is crucial as any contaminants can affect the adhesion of the chrome layer. We are equipped with both caustic tanks and high precision grinders to remove any type of prior coating.
Once cleaned, the part can be subjected to a series of acid and alkaline baths to etch the surface, creating a suitable substrate for the chrome deposit.
Our process
The component is immersed in one of our two large in-house caustic tanks of chromic acid solution, where an electric current facilitates the deposition of chromium onto the metal surface. The thickness of the chrome layer can vary depending on the specific application requirements, but it generally ranges from a few microns to several millimeters.

Just like you, we want to ensures your products operate at peak performance and have a longer service life.
Each step of our electroplating process is standardized to maintain high-quality results, ensuring that every component plated at Okotech Machine Shop Inc. meets or exceeds industry standards. We deliver consistent, quality chrome on any metal.
LDP test
Liquid Dye Penetrant tests guarantee that each component we handle upholds the utmost standards of integrity and functionality.
Should such a certification require, we can perform a Liquid Dye Penetrant test on parts prior to coating to ensure the integrity of the base metals.

Applications of Industrial Chrome
Chrome plating finds its applications across various industries due to its versatility and durability. In the aerospace industry, chrome plating is applied to landing gear and other critical components, ensuring they withstand the rigorous demands of flight. The oil and gas industry also relies on chrome plating to protect drilling equipment and pipelines from corrosion and wear. In the manufacturing sector, molds and dies benefit from chrome plating's ability to reduce friction and improve release properties. At Okotech, we cater to diverse industries, providing customized chrome plating solutions to meet specific requirements.
Benefits of Hard Chrome Plating
One of the most significant advantages of chrome plating is its ability to dramatically increase the wear resistance of metal components. This is particularly beneficial in industries where machines are subjected to constant friction and pressure. By reducing wear, companies can extend the lifespan of their machinery, minimizing downtime and maintenance costs.
Additionally, chrome plating offers excellent corrosion resistance, protecting metal parts from the damaging effects of moisture and chemicals. This is especially advantageous in harsh environments where exposure to corrosive substances is common. Furthermore, the smooth, mirror-like finish of chrome-plated parts reduces friction, enhancing the efficiency of moving components.
